This work started by accident.
I was in a woodshop with a family friend learning how to run turkey calls. He suggested I try painting a turkey on a feather. We used feathers from an old fan that was headed for the burn pile. I painted a few, and they were placed inside calls that went on to place in competition.
From there, it stuck.
After he passed, his family gave me those calls—the ones with the first painted feathers inside. I still have them.
